Castle Park Solicitors

About us

Castle Park Solicitors is an innovative, ground breaking enterprise in the heart of the City of Leicester, committed to providing access to high-quality legal advice and services at honest and affordable prices.

We are a Community Interest Company (CIC), limited by guarantee and are committed to the benefit of the community. We are owned by a not-for-profit charity, the Community Advice and Law Service (CALS), which provides free legal advice and representation and has served the people of Leicester for more than 30 years.

Castle Park Solicitors operates as an Alternative Business Structure under the terms of a licence from the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority. Our objective is to provide legal advice and representation to people in the City of Leicester and surrounding areas who might otherwise be denied access to justice. As we are owned by a charity, we are able to set our fees at competitive rates and at levels which are affordable to people of limited means and to those who may have been eligible to receive publicly-funded legal advice services prior to the reforms of the legal aid system in April 2013.

Castle Park Solicitors is the first law firm in the UK to be owned by a charity. All our profits are paid to the Community Advice and Law Service to enable it to continue to provide free advice in debt and housing for those people who would otherwise be unable to access those services.

We can also assist should you choose to conduct your own case. Our solicitors are specialists in their own fields with extensive experience of legal advice and representation.

It is important to us that our clients are satisfied with the services they receive and that the advice and assistance we provide makes a lasting difference to their lives.

At your first interview we will discuss what you wish to achieve and explain what assistance we can provide, and where possible, how long the case is likely to take.

You can expect us to:

  1. examine your case in detail and explore your options
  2. discuss the law in clear language, avoiding jargon
  3. decide the best course of action based on your circumstances and requirements, whether we represent you or you choose to conduct your own case
  4. make sure you understand the costs to be incurred and the options for payment, and help you choose the best course of action.
  5. provide you with confirmation of our advice in writing.

If it becomes clear to us that you may be eligible for help under the “legal aid” system, and the matter on which you are seeking advice falls within the scope of legal aid, we will refer you to another firm or advice agency which offers this service.

If you would like advice and assistance on matters of social welfare law (debt, housing, welfare benefits), we will give you information about the free advice services available.

We will always keep you informed about the progress of your case and will respond promptly when you contact us.

We are based in a welcoming, fully accessible period building in the city centre. We are able to offer services in several languages, including Gujarati, Hindi, Urdu and French. Our opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
